Cookie Monster admits it, saying that he is full now and gives Ernie the last cookie, but Sherlock ends up taking it as payment.

SCENE 3 When Bob passes Oscar's trash can, he's met with a spattering of joyful observations from Oscar the Grouch. Bob is dumbfounded as Oscar explains that he, like other Grouches, is having a "nice day" today (the equivalent of a person having a "bad day"). Oscar feels miserable, so Bob comes up with the idea of treating him nicely, hoping that will spoil his sweet mood. He gets the help of Gordon and Susan, who proceed to talk about how beautiful of a day it is today. Oscar regrets to inform them that their niceness hasn't changed his mood, and returns their gesture with some compliments. Oscar retreats into his can and lets out a cry of desperation.

SCENE 4 Oscar is still in a nice mood. Since Bob tries to be near nice people to cheer him up when he's in a bad mood, Oscar suggests that everyone tries being grouchy to him instead. The group, now joined by Olivia, takes turns insulting him and bark at him to leave them alone. Oscar darts quickly back into his can, and the others hope this did the trick. Instead, the Grouch emerges with a tray of fresh milk and cookies to share with everyone!
Cartoon A pirate has his mate dig for treasure, which is buried between two trees. The mate doesn't know what between means. He finally gets the message, but a parrot makes off with the treasure.

SCENE 5 Oscar sings the "Sesame Street Theme" to himself before the grown-ups gather around with some trashy items in another attempt to "sadden" him up from his good mood. Oscar remarks how nice it is that they're giving him an old fish head, a broken radio, and a falling ivy plant, but Bob explains that they're not giving it to him; they're saving it for a true Grouch. Oscar is exasperated and eventually turns grouchy again, yelling "Gimme-gimme-gimme!" at the others, though they still refuse to hand the junk over.
Muppets Kermit's Lectures: Kermit attempts to demonstrate between by standing between two poles, which are actually mops held by Grover and Herry.

SCENE 6 Oscar is still begging for the trash, so his neighbors finally give it to him. He slams his trash lid down and Bob asks if he's going to thank them. Oscar replies, "Are you kidding? Hit the road, Jack!" Susan announces the sponsors.
